Danny and Colleen are lifelong members of Nativity parish and lifelong residents of the coast. They are the parents to three adult children and the proud grandparents of six. Danny works as Account Executive for Sparklight Business. After 34 years of teaching, Colleen recently retired from Nativity B.V.M. Elementary School. Passionate about serving the young people of the cathedral parish, the Kavanaghs have mentored the youth in several aspects. They acted as adult advisors with Nativity Youth Ministry, served as directors of the multi-parish CCD program, taught high school CCD along with Confirmation preparation, and directed Vacation Bible School. They were leaders on several youth pilgrimages including March for Life in Washington, D. C., The University of Notre Dame Vision Experience, St. Gabriel Mercy Center mission trip in the Mississippi Delta, and National Youth Convention in Indiana. The highlight of their youth ministry experience was organizing and leading a group of 37 youth from the Diocese of Biloxi to World Youth Day in Poland in 2016. Recently the Kavanaghs accepted the role of altar server coordinators. Danny himself ministered on the altar for seven years of his youth and is excited to share his experience with other children. Anyone third grade and up to senior in high school is welcome and encouraged to join this important ministry. It is a special privilege to assist the clergy in the sanctuary during the celebration of the Mass.
