MISSION STATEMENT
Nativity B.V.M. Elementary School, part of Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral Parish, serves the children of the Gulf Coast area. As a Catholic school, we strive to help our students develop into fully integrated human persons who are creative and Christ-centered. In an environment of love, prayerfulness, justice, and peace, we provide a high quality education that has, as its goal, the development of each child’s spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, social, psychological, and physical capabilities.
Nativity B.V.M. is one of the State accredited elementary schools administered by the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi. Its history connects with that of Sacred Heart Academy, which began in 1875, under the direction of the Sisters of Mercy. By 1956, Biloxi had more children than Sacred Heart Academy could accommodate, so the newly constructed Nativity B.V.M. Elementary School opened its doors to 600 students in Kindergarten through Grade 6.
ADMISSIONS
Nativity B.V.M. School accepts Catholic students from Nativity B.V.M. Parish as well as other parishes, including Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Keesler AFB, Our Mother of Sorrows, Vietnamese Martyrs, and St. Michael’s. New families, who provide verification of membership in Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral parish, will be allowed to register one day prior to the regular open registration dates. Students of other faiths are accepted on a space available basis.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Pope Benedict XVI said, “A good school provides a rounded education for the whole person. And a good Catholic school, over and above this, should help all its students to become saints.” As we strive to help our students become saints, we are anchored by the traditions of the school and the legacy of teachers, students, and parents that came before us. We are a family of believers, and we focus on educating each student; body, mind and soul.

current events
GUARDIAN ANGEL PROGRAM—It is time again to consider giving a child the gift of a Catholic education by contributing to the Guardian Angel program. Last year, Nativity BVM Elementary School was blessed to receive over $5,000 in Guardian Angel donations. Those funds were used to help pay tuition costs for families in need. Brochures are available in the church. You may also contact Traci Kessler, Principal, if you would like to donate for the upcoming school year at tkessler@nativitybvm.org. We appreciate your generosity!
*Please remember to save the following for our school: Box Tops for Education, Community Coffee UPC codes, and aluminum beverage cans. All provide additional funds for our school.

“I believe that what makes Nativity B.V.M. School so special is the family atmosphere that we encourage and experience each day. Our pastor, faculty, and staff work together with the parents and families to respond to the needs of each child in the best way possible. Older children look out for younger children and see this as both a privilege and a responsibility. At Nativity, we believe in educating the whole child…mind, body, and spirit.”
~Sister Mary Jo Mike, OSF
